Competition Training
Select Show Horses’ riding instructors evaluate each rider’s skill level, commitment and work ethic in order to identify those individuals who merit a position on the Competition Training Team. This is an “invitation only” program for those students who are serious about pursuing the competitive aspect of horseback riding.
Competition Training is a monthly program. It allows students to take two lessons per week, and to participate in clinics, classroom learning and hands on horsemanship two days per month (typically Saturdays).
The program is designed to advance riding abilities quickly and at a higher level of intensity than the general lesson program, to teach the fundamentals of horse care and management, and to help students set and accomplish goals for their equine endeavors. Competition Team riders typically participate in Academy level shows using a horse owned by Select Show Horses.
Many Competition Team riders desire to progress beyond Academy shows, and compete on a regional and national level. When the appropriate skill level is attained, Select Show Horses staff will assist in finding the appropriate show horse for a rider’s purchase or lease, and advise riders of equipment and show apparel needed. Select Show Horses staff prepares show entries, provides transportation, horse preparation and ringside coaching at the show.
